What was hardest

The clinic slot was short. Instructions came quickly. The relative missed the second half of sentences, and Mr. Huang was not sure his own retelling would be accurate. He did not want a nod to stand for something half heard.

What the sheet said

Bilingual escort was its own block: present in the consult, then a Chinese note and an English note of the instructions. The language was English. Another language would have needed notice ahead, and was not guaranteed the same day. Interpretation did not include deciding whether a test should be done.

In the room

The escort interpreted both ways. Mr. Huang could stop and ask for a sentence again. The lines that mattered, such as what to bring next time and which test needed fasting, were written in both languages on one page and read back. The doctor's words remained the hospital's. The escort added no recommendation and did not turn the notes into a diagnosis.

After the room

That page stayed with Mr. Huang. It was not kept on the escort's phone as a medical record. If the hospital later issued written orders, those orders lead. The interpreted page is only the same-day check. The escort walked them to the test windows. Window rules stayed with the hospital.
